Are we becoming stupid?
I was asked this week if we were becoming smarter or more stupid. There is an information overload out there. You can google anything from making poison to building houses. But have we lost our ability to "think". How many reach for a calculator do so simple math problems. Even the signs have been condensed. In the "good old days" signs for bathrooms where written "Ladies" or "Gentlemen". Now we stick men and women representing the words.
In the age of convenience it is so easy to find anything. But do we absorb it? You read something interesting on-line but do you stop and think about it or just skip through to the next page?
Reading today consists of scanning the news on line and chatting. Fewer and fewer people are reading books. Kids today don't know about library's.
In certain fields things are becoming more advanced but in our day to day lives are we just sitting back and taking the easy road?
